Steve Schmidt

Steve Schmidt

President & Owner of Schmidt Homes, Inc.

Steve founded the company in 1981. He serves as the project manager for all new residential and commercial construction. Born in Sleepy Eye, Minnesota, Steve graduated from Northfield High School and attended South Central College. He and his wife Lori have three children: Mary, Tom, and Tim, grandsons Felix, Julian, Danny and granddaughter Louisa.

Steve enjoys bicycling, running, skiing, fishing, and golfing. He attends Twins games with his family and is a frequent visitor to the Boundary Waters. Steve has been extensively involved with local and national charities, including the United Way, and he currently serves on the board of South Central College.

Jeff Schmidt

Vice President, Owner & Project Manager

Jeff is a skilled carpenter and nephew of Steve Schmidt. He lives in Northfield with his wife Lindsay and two children, Caleb and Nora. Jeff is a graduate of Southeast Technical College in Red Wing, MN and has worked with Schmidt Construction for over 10 years. Solving a variety of problems, working on a multitude of projects and spending time with the crew is why Jeff likes what he does. Not only an avid golfer and 1st baseman, Jeff also enjoys the finer things in life like bow hunting and fishing.

Emily Schwamb

Allied ASID: Interior & Architectural Design, Marketing

Emily has been practicing Interior Design since graduating in 2006 from the FIDAR accredited Art Institute of Colorado with a Bachelors of Science in Interior Design. She specializes in Residential Design, space planning, kitchen and bath design, and material selections.

Emily joined Steven Schmidt Construction in November of 2010. Returning to Minnesota after nearly a decade in Denver Colorado, she and her two kids (Jonas and Hadley) now call Northfield their permanent home.

Chad LaCanne

Project Supervisor

Chad has been with Schmidt Homes since 2019 when he signed on as our Framing Supervisor. Previously he was an independent contractor until we managed to convince him to join our team. He soon moved up the ranks to Project Supervisor. He and his wife live in Apple Valley with their two children, a girl and a boy, whom he coaches in hockey and softball. He loves fishing, hiking, traveling and enjoys being with his family.

Mary Schmidt

Assistant Project Manager

After taking an eleven-year sabbatical from Schmidt Homes, Mary is back and better than ever. She is currently assisting our project managers & designer, overhauling our operations, and sorting though our processes to increase efficiency and maximize output. She brings a fresh perspective to the office and is passionate about fostering inclusivity at Schmidt Homes.
Mary is a native of Northfield and graduate of St. Olaf, but currently lives in St. Paul with her two young children. Daughter to Steve Schmidt and cousin of Jeff Schmidt, Mary worked for Schmidt Home during her summers growing up, and full time until 2010. When not working or spending time with her kids, she enjoys reading non-fiction, drawing, painting, and listening to podcasts.

Julie Sunsdahl

Accountant

Julie brings 25+ years accounting experience to her role as accountant for Schmidt Homes. She has 4 sons, 4 grandchildren and 2 dogs. Julie has a variety of interests from crafting to owning a 1976 Chevy Nova show car named Nora. When she and her partner aren’t traveling, attending rodeos, or going to car shows, they spend time caring for the animals on his farm.

Linda Schwamb

Marketing & Administration

Linda came out of retirement as an executive administrative assistant to save our sanity. With a certification in all things Microsoft and a passion for organization, she is helping us get our business in tip top shape. From marketing & advertising to building our new website, Linda picks up and takes care of it all.
When she is not in the office Linda is snowshoeing, gardening, knitting beautiful sweaters, helping her husband manage their five-acre hobby farm, and carving out quality time with her eight grandchildren.
